Week in Pictures

First harvest from one of our blueberry bushes – woo hoo! They are doing just fine in the buckets we transplanted them into last fall thank goodness and boy are they delish!!!

Found these coasters at City Home, a store in Southeast that I was originally checking out for the new furniture line of Joanna Gaines (Fixer Upper? Beloved. Furniture line? Meh), and thought they would make a great little housewarming gift for ourselves in our new home! And the set was only $4 – sweet dude!!

And oh yeah…holy shit we sold our house today, exactly 3 weeks after putting it on the market. We got two offers but the second one was clearly better, as they didn’t need to sell their house to buy ours, and (be still my beating heart) she’s an environmental health specialist and he’s a biologist I think…yes of course I looked them up on the internet and saw their LinkedIn profiles!).  They made an offer, we countered, they countered, we said yes, and that was that. Interesting tidbit – both offers asked us to include our breakfast nook table and bench seating that Dan made by hand for me. We were like, aw hell no! I can’t imagine asking the seller for personal property! it’s one thing to ask for the appliances to be included (they already were), but for personal possessions? Aw hell no! So anyhow, next week I shall get the keys to our new home (we don’t take possession til the 5th though), and in 35 days I will say goodbye to this home I have loved so very much for so very long. I’m very emotional now, to put it mildly. My home. I can’t bear the thought of saying goodbye to you, but there is so much ahead waiting for us. Terrifying was not the feeling I thought I’d have, but the moment is here. More to come on this topic of course, right now I’m just rocking myself slowly…

  1. Congratulations! I remember that feeling of terror from when we moved out here, and when we got a really good start on this house. Sending you (((hugs)))

And Joanna Gaines? Sure, she’s good at what she does, and what she does is pretty. But what she does is all she does, without deviations; she’s definitely a one-note kind of designer. (I loved her until I saw her RUIN a mid-century modern house in original condition: she removed original built-ins, covered terrazzo floors, and country-fried that house into a pile of deep fried sadnes. Unforgivable.) Great score on some coasters, though!

    1. “one note” – perfect description…the houses all have the same vibe, for sure. i saw the collection and it mirrored that unfortunately, but more offensively were the accessories – signs that say “farmhouse” or “home” that make my husband crazy, hahaha (he always says “as if we don’t know where we are!” when he sees those, heh…

“deep fried sadness” – omg that’s my phrase of the day.

  2. I am so so behind on reading blogs, so belated congratulations to you! Soon you’ll be a coastie!

And your story of the buyers asking for personal possessions made me remember my college days, when our landlord sold the house we were renting. She and the buyers walked through and the buyers put stickers on everything they wanted to come with the house. This included a lot of our things (like my fish tank?!), which was bizarre and kind of violating in a weird way. I just remember thinking that we were such poor college kids and almost everything we had was second hand to begin with and we couldn’t afford to replace it – we weren’t parting with any of it!

    Anyway, yay yay congratulations!

    1. Thanks so much!! Stickers…jeez, that’s pretty ballsy! My granny asked us kids to do that when we were younger, I couldn’t bear to as I thought it was so rude! (My skeezy cousin didn’t though so he got the jukebox, little turd…but I snuck in an took all the 45s out beforehand, hahaha…)
