After 7 years as EcoGrrl, I have decided to change my blog to The EcoFeminist!
While I’ve got a soft spot for being known for so many years as EcoGrrl in the online community, it’s something I’ve grown out of, as the “Grrl” portion of my moniker is a throwback to my twenties (aka Riot Grrrl) and also, too many people think I’m calling myself EcoGIRL which I definitely am not. I embrace the 41 years I’ve been on this earth and leave the term “girl” for those under 18! So, after a whole crazy long lists of possible names, then of course the fun part of cross-checking online for existing websites and the like, I’ve allowed EcoGrrl’s history to remain, while embracing who I am today.
Why EcoFeminist? Here’s a quote that really defines my inspiration…
“Ecofeminism brings together elements of the feminist and green movements, while at the same time offering a challenge to both. It takes from the green movement a concern about the impact of human activities on the non-human world and from feminism the view of humanity as gendered in ways that subordinate, exploit and oppress women.”
~ Mary Mellor (From the introduction to “Feminism & Ecology”)
My blog will continue to focus on everyone and everything out there that interests me, but with a promise to return to my more introspective roots at least once a week. A few years ago I added some much-needed structure in the form of regular post topics, and while I do like some of them, I no longer am going to be bound by them. (Funny how we can limit ourselves without really thinking about it, eh?).
From those of you who started out with me back in the day when I created this blog to work through the impending death of my father, to those just discovering my blog for the first time…thank you for taking the time to read, to comment, to share. I have learned so much from all of you, traded emails offline with a bunch of you, met several of you in person, and….even stumbled upon my husband through the magic of blogland! Pretty sweet!
Here’s to the future!
