Dragonflies in abundance this summer…
The husband & I are geeking out over the atlas we just bought! Yes there’s that newfangled internet thing but this is great to physically touch not to mention have when you’re in the mountains, etc.! We are planning a road trip in spring through the Southeast, flying to the East Coast then driving through the whole region over a couple of weeks. Fun!
Harvesting is getting amped up – cukes, basil, sweet peppers, onions more rhubarb, and our first tomatoes (including this Russian heirloom that grows dark red with a green top – tastes OK but nothing exciting).
It’s hard to really explain how crazy our pumpkins are getting. Six innocent seeds from last year’s ‘cinderella’ pumpkin equals insanity (the bed they were planted in is at the bottom right corner). Fortunately we don’t have a car so the driveway where all the vines are heading is a great place for the pumpkins to soak in the sun! Oh yeah – and this is a banner sunflower year – those ones on the right that I planted are about 10-12′ now!
These are supposed to be small pumpkins. If this sucker continues to grow, by Halloween we’re talking the Charlie Brown Great Pumpkin!
Lots of canning this weekend – we biked downtown to get half a flat of organic blackberries (the ones found on our trip to Sauvie Island were unfortunately tasteless so we didn’t pick any this year), so I made a nice batch of blackberry-rhubarb jam with the rhubarb from the garden, and along with it we have raspberry, blueberry-raspberry, and strawberry jam as well (the hubby likes toast to put it mildly). Also with the garden going crazy we have more sweet relish and peach salsa! Now staring down the green peppers, willing them to turn red so I can start roasting and marinating! We have had such an early season it’s got me impatient 🙂
Yay for nature walks!!! (I swear I’m not as exasperated as I look!)
After a long talk with my fella, I’ve revamped my writing plan for what type of book I want to write first. While I still have something semiautobiographical in mind for the future, the first one is going to be based on my experiences professionally. I’ve decided to focus one full day per week on this to keep the focus and hopefully finish before year-end for self-publishing. Onward! (image source)
