|yesterday (not today)|
those are days i’ll prefer to commemorate. so i’ll leave the other anniversary in the corner of my mind.
remember when the wall came down?
(i still have the front page of the paper)
remember when he fell in love with her?
(i don’t, actually, he died when i was 6)
remember when you asked him to the dance?
(my freshman year, the end of innocence, the skater disappeared but the stoner said yes that night, we danced to george michael and it was where the nice boy got dissed and i headed down That path…uh-oh…aww leave me alone, i wore black and i looked cute)
once i told you that i was punk rock grrl an earth mother all rolled into one. turn up the music, take me for a cocktail and let me dance into the night, but make sure i get time to play in the kitchen, work on the house and be in the garden the next day. so many things to be learned, over long lazy mornings and glimpses through the crowd and everyday natter over grilled cheese and tomato soup.
you are right, i talk more about today than yesterday in this little world. but i know where i was, and i’ll tell you whatever you all want to know. what i write about now? it’s as much an autobiography as it is an agenda for tomorrow. the fact that you encouraged all sides of me, it was something that may have seemed small to you, but to me? it touched me. thank you.
