Sunshineeeee

sunflower just starting to peek out of the soil…i can’t wait!
strawberry blossoms – i happily let these take over…
lemon balm (aka mint), happy as can be
one of my favorite ground covers…i don’t remember what it’s called…

slept little last night, my mind too flummoxed to ease into regular sleep… but still awoke at the same time. headed out in the zipcar to drop off truffles at my local cafe that sells them, then use more of my big box gift card to pick up some all purpose sand to mold my concrete fire bowl around, and ended up getting a red rhododendron (found a new partial shade spot by the deck which i hope will work, as last time i tried to grow one it died), as well as a blue delphinium (a first for me). then worked my arse off on the fire bowl project. i had 3 1/2 bags of concrete leftover from the deck project so i am hoping this will work with the existing fire pit design. it is covered in plastic now, hopefully to dry in the next couple of days and then hopefully to not suck. 🙂 i prepped the beds for tomatoes to go in next month (going for 8 plants this year – san marzanos baby!), strung up lines for the peas to climb through, and prepped the beds for corn. i can’t WAIT to plant the beans…just a few more weeks unless of course this weather stays warm… planted some more sunflowers, moved the tulips into the ground that already have bloomed, and picked a few lilacs because i just can’t help myself. walked to the grocery store and played with the dog. thinned out the spinach and onions and felt terribly guilt.

by the way, here’s a great little cheat sheet site for companion planting (you know, what you should plant near what, what veggies go together, what herbs to plant near them to keep away bugs, etc.) – i am referring to it constantly 🙂

another saturday night and i’m trying not to think of cat stevens…
