Yard bliss

Saturday morning gardening is always a good thing. Feeling the tip of my nose chilly this morning and the promise of sunshine peeking out from behind a cloud, I pulled on my comfy weekend clothes and hopped on the bike for a cappuccino and a cinnamon roll before Ziptrucking it over to the home improvement store. With the Specials on extra high, I filled ‘er up with cinder blocks and came home to finish up the garden plot in my newly lit backyard. Having no trees in my yard, I made my raking neighbor happy by taking all of his maple tree’s leaves to make delicious winter compost for the beds. No especially great beauty yet for my blank slate, but it’s getting some potential. Close your eyes and imagine hulking San Marzano tomatoes eating up the sunlight, cheery peppers loving life next to big fat basil leaves, maybe some cute little groups of greens making dinner just a little bit better, long stretching arms of zucchini blossoms, and then, just possibly, a lovely rows of fat red onions ready for caramelizing…

Big green bugger chillin’ on the solar light in the front yard.
